A fachen is a Scottish creature that has only one of each body part, where humans usually have two. Its misshapen features have given it a nasty temperament, which it exercises on wanderers who pass its home. A fachen's stare can send a person into seizures and eventually a coma or death. Fachens, sometimes called Pegleg Jacks can travel very far and fast despite their singular leg, and using crude iron tools, can destroy large crops, or fell an entire forest in one night. When fachens encounter extremely strong humans who are immune to their frightful gaze, the fachen will usually challenge the human to a contest: If the human can cut through the fachen's hair, the human can go free, if not, the fachen will eat the human. This is never a wise wager. No fachen has ever lost an inch of hair to a human blade, but many humans have ended up the main course of a fachen family dinner.
