A penanggalan is a strange vampire-like creature from the folklore of Malaysia. It appears in daytime as a very beautiful woman, but at night, its head detaches and rises into the air, trailing the creature's entrails and organs behind it. At dawn, after a night of drinking the blood of its victims, the penanggalan must return to it's body or die. It order to do this, it keeps large jars of vinegar in its home so that it can shrink its entrails enough to slide them back into its bodily disguise.
