31 Days of Monsters - Day 20: Yr Hwch Ddu Gwta

In Wales, November 1 is the start of winter, and Calan Gaeaf is celebrated. A pyre is built and people surround the bonfire with rocks marked with their names. As the fires dwindle everyone runs home before the Yr Hwch Ddu Gwta comes. The Yr Hwch Ddu Gwta is a monstrous, tailless black sow that hunts down people who aren't safe at home. In the morning, the stones are inspected, and if a person can't find the stone with their name on it, they know that they will die within the coming year.

31 Days of Monsters: The Peking Homunculus

A lot of people talk about the monsters of Doctor Who as having an indelible imprint on children who watch the show. The Daleks are cited foremost as one of the big monsters that terrorized viewers through the years, but for me, The Peking Homunculus from the Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker's adventure, "The Talons of Weng-Chiang" is the one that really freaked me out.
The Peking Homunculus (a.k.a Mr. Sin) was a child-size cyborg created in the 51st century utilizing the brain of a pig as a logic circuit. The creature, created as gift for a royal family, went on a murderous rampage and disappeared. It resurfaced in Victorian London under the control of the time-traveling war criminal Magnus Greel, masquerading as the chinese god Weng-Chiang.
The character was played by actor Deep Roy, and played upon a fear of ventriloquist dolls. This critter entered my nightmares more times than I can count.
