31 Days of Monsters - Day 6: Hiisi (plural: hiidet)

Hiidet are Finnish nature spirits. They roam areas never visited by humans and attack humans who attempt to "civilize" those areas. The only escape from a hiisi is to flee to a human cultivated or developed location. Hiidet find these area abhorrent and poisonous.

31 Days of Monsters - Day 2: The Tikbalang

In the dark forests of the Philippines, the Tikbalang lurks. Some believe it is the cursed soul of a dead child released from Limbo to guard the forests. It will lead astray anyone who trespasses in it's home, and keep them traveling in circles until they die of exposure or starvation.

31 Days of Monsters: Woodewose

The woodwose were medieval wildmen who lived in the thick, primordial forests of Europe. Gigantic and hairy, woodwose were generally hostile to all humans, and were blamed with disappearances. Woodwose were viewed as animistic spirits of the forest by some, canibalistic monstrostities by others, but they were always to be avoided if possible.

31 Days of Monsters 2014: Pollo Maligno

In Colombian folklore, there is a an evil spirit known as Pollo Maligno, that lures hunters out into the forest, and then devours them without leaving a trace. Yes ... an evil,  man-eating chicken.
