Ready for paint

With this hot weather, the mask is about as dry as it can be. Next up, a couple coats of sealer and then the painting begins.
Don't worry. I'm not forgetting the 2-D work. I'll have some more in a day or so. I've been trying out a new surface, and I'm beginning to get the hang of it. It probably won't replace Bristol board, but it could turn out to be a fun alternative.

Drying time again

It's still drying right now, but I wanted to post a snapshot. I have to strengthen the inside, add the crown so it will stay on my head and turn when I turn my head, and then patch small gaps here and there. Hopefully it will be ready to seal and paint early next week. Things are moving along quite nicely. I should have this ready to show at the Trick 'r Tiki show.

A little 3-D work for Halloween

My life is full of projects recently, and that's the best news in the world. I finally got back to my Halloween mask project. I really struggles to get this taped and hot-glued together tonight. I want the finished piece to be as light as possible, so I am trying to keep the cardboard bone structure made out of as few layers as possible. It hasn't been easy, but I think it'll work out fine. I need to get my hands on some neodymium magnets soon. I may need to make a run to Radio Shack tomorrow.

I never drink ... wine

"Tending the vines"

As a lifelong Wine Country resident, I've had to draw my share of vineyards, wine glasses and bottles.
I can do it, but given my druthers, I'd choose almost any other subject.
If I drank wine, I'd probably feel differently, but I rarely drink and when I do, it's usually a nice refreshing gin & tonic.
I feel, in a way, that trading on being a Napa Valley native by drawing and painting vineyard scenes and wine-themed still lifes would be dishonest. There are good artists out there who know wine, and care passionately about the subject matter. To me however, it's just a background to more passionate interests.
Like vampires for instance.
Hmmm ... if only there were a Monster Country I could move to. I'm sure I'd be a sensation!
