31 Days of Monsters - Day 7: Wildman of the Navidad

Another BHM (Big Hairy Monster) makes its home near the Navidad River in Texas. The Wildman is a silent, nimble creature that is seldom seen, but that always leaves evidence of his nightly visits. He can slip into homes undetected and raid secured livestock pens to steal food. He is nimble and clever, preferring never to be seen, and will lash out furiously at anyone who spies on him.

31 Days of Monsters - Day 24: The Yucca Man of 29 Palms

The Yucca Man is a large bigfoot-like creature of California's high desert. The terrifying creature blends in to the surrounding trees after which it is named, and lurks along lonely roads and in neighborhoods at night searching for stray dogs and cats to feed on.

31 Days of Monsters: The Hibagon

A Japanese BHM, the Hibagon is a large humanoid covered with black bristly fur and white hands and feet. Like other BHMs, the Hibagon prefers solitude, but can surprise outdoorsy people who aren't expecting to meet such a creature on their travels.

31 Days of Monsters: The Yowie

There are legends of big hairy monsters around the world. Australia's BHM is known as the Yowie. Huge and shaggy with long sharp claws and furtive, glowing eyes, the Yowie has stalked the outback, frightening the willies out of countless people through the years as is common for most BHMs.

31 Days of Monsters 2014: Fouke Monster

Locals say there is a large hairy creature that wanders the swamps of Fouke, Arkansas. The Fouke Monster seems to be the only one of its kind and sightings are rare. Its infrequent sightings have lead many to believe that it's not one member of a larger community of creatures like the Sasquatch of northern california, but rather some sort of solitary beast, mutant or deformed wildman. The most common evidence for this theory are its footprints. Where most other Sasquatch-like creatures have five toes like a human, the Fouke Monster leaves strange three-toed prints wherever it roams.

31 Days of Monsters 2014: The Skunk Ape

The Skunk Ape is a southeastern relative of Bigfoot. Like Bigfoot, it's a large ape-like humanoid that leaves enormous footprints and a noisome signature wherever it goes. I first heard of the Skunk Ape from an Encyclopedia Brown story in elementary school. Recently alleged photos of the Skunk Ape have surfaced that have given cryptozoologists hope that the creature actually exists. Why anyone would want a huge, potentially dangerous big hairy monster that smells like rotten eggs to exist is beyond me.

31 Days of Monsters: The Honey Island Swamp Monster

Similar to Bigfoot, the Honey Island Swamp Monster is described as a large hairy hominid that roams the Honey Island Swamp in Louisiana. People know the Swamp Monster is close even if they can't see it, because it puts out a horrid rotten egg smell. It's normally standoffish to humans, but will attack if threatened.

31 Days of Monsters: Day Twenty-two — Bigfoot

I can remember watching Saturday afternoon matinee movies on TV. They always had the typical sci-fi and horror fare, but I really got a charge out of the movies TV Guide labeled "Speculation." My favorites, were the feature-length documentaries about legendary man-monster Bigfoot.
To kids of the '70s, Bigfoot was fascinating in a way other monsters weren't. It's one thing for kids to believe in monsters, but with Bigfoot, Adults believed too. They were all over the TV, and in magazines and newspapers telling their thrilling stories of frightening encounters with the mythical ape creature of the Pacific Northwest.
And adults never lie, right?
