31 Days of Monsters: The Lavellan

Every part of the tiny Scottish Lavellan is deadly. A single hair from a Lavellan can pollute waterways for miles. Its tears and saliva can make fields barren for decades. Despite being smaller than a baby mouse, its footsteps can break cobblestones. Its horrendous breath can kill the heartiest man, and it's stare can kill livestock from a hundred paces away. Nobody is sure if the Lavellan means to be so awful or if its just cursed. And nobody really wants to find out by getting close enough to ask.

31 Days of Monsters 2014: Catoblepas

The Catoblepas was a disgusting beast encountered in Ethiopia by the Greeks. It had the body of a buffalo, the neck of a serpent,  ridged scales down its back, a flail-like tail and a massive tusked head that was so heavy it could only look down. It's bloodshot gaze was enough to stun a man at fifty paces, and because it fed solely on poisonous grasses and roots, it emitted a stench that could kill and allegedly turn a corpse to stone. It's scales and sheer size made it almost impossible to kill, but since it was fairly docile in nature — only killing passively — it was best to just steer clear of them, and hope they never wandered too near a settlement.

31 Days of Monsters: The Manticore

The Manticore is a creature from Persian legend with the body of a lion, head of a human, with huge eyes, three rows of shark-like teeth and a barbed tail that can fire poisoned spines. It's voice is said to be like an echoing horn, and when it dines, it eats its victims whole leaving no trace behind.
